Free Video Game Music Directory (mp3, ogg, MIDI)

To help visitors navigate the large amount of music on this site, I’ve created the following directory.  (Note that the top-right search box is also available, and it may actually be faster if you’re trying to locate a specific song.)

Entries are sorted by category, and this directory may differ from the formal categorization available via the right-hand menu.  This is deliberate.

Songs are generally available in MIDI, mp3, and Ogg (Vorbis) formats.

• Halls of Despair – my first attempt at a “scary” piece of background music…now it’s mostly good for showcasing panning effects ;)

• Assault on Mist Castle – two-part anticipation/battle theme

• Dark Knight – a driving 5/4 orchestral number (written long before the Batman movie of the same name!)
• Defiance and Defiance Remixed – two variations on my first modern rock battle theme
• Now or Never – traditional march/anticipatory theme, a sort of “prelude to battle”
• Ominosity – an experiment in using nothing but minor scales to generate an emphatic battle theme
• Reign of Anarchy – vintage RPG boss battle
• Retribution – my most epic battle theme to date; multiple themes in beautiful metal glory

Character Theme

• A Memory Away – contemporary rock never sounded so good (…as a remixed MIDI, that is)
• Clowns – a violation of every rule of good music…just because I can
• Crossroads – from starting timpani to final orchestra crash, this piece embodies the principle of “theme”
• Daybreak – the first (and last hoedown) theme I’ll ever write
• Destiny – my favorite female character theme; simple, memorable, profound
• Faith – epic choir + pipe organ + orchestra + full percussion = church music at its finest
• Fate (Clint’s Theme) – a screwy, fatuous tribute to Clint V Franklin, aka “theraje”
• Find You – a beautifully haunting orchestral theme marked by the best oboe soundfont you’ll ever hear
• The Journey (Kroc’s Theme) – a classic march, led by a very nice Spanish trumpet
• King of the Desert – the best guitar work I’ve ever done (acoustic and electric)
• Remember – a majestic character theme and the second half of Cyaron’s Gate

Game Over

• Nevermore (Game Over) – this one’s pretty depressing. What did you expect?

Love

• Deserve to be Loved – the title says it all – a quiet, introspective pop-rock theme
• Faith (Love Remix) – the classic “Faith” theme, remixed in quiet acoustic form
• Hidden Tears – a serene choir + orchestra theme
• Leaving Millie – beautiful theme based on a character conceived by Kroc Camen

Retro

• Wild Waters Theme – theme song to the retro VB title “Wild Waters”

Town Theme

• Familiar Roads – modern, pop-rock style theme (great drum work, btw)
• Home – pastoral town theme for a quaint little fictional village
• Lost Islands – tribal music, which basically means lots and lots and lots of drums
• Syntheticity – synth-heavy 80′s-style VG town theme
• Tiberian National Anthem – patriotic theme for a fictional country

Villain

• Honky-Tonk Villain – moustached villain, innocent woman, train tracks, honky-tonk piano…BAM
• March of the Zargansk – dark, brooding theme for a hostile alien race
• Thugs – MIDI doesn’t do metal rock, but it does do… cheesy imitation rock!

• Carol of the Bells (Ukranian Bell Carol) – one of my favorite holiday melodies, remixed in VG style

• Unknown (loosely based off Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King”) – Grieg like you’ve never heard him before

• Aerith’s Theme (Final Fantasy VII) for solo piano – gorgeous remix of a gorgeous theme
• Bloody Tears (Castlevania II) in progressive rock style – if you haven’t heard Castlevania, you haven’t heard music
• White Knights (originally by DragonFyre) – remixed arrangement of the original haunting theme by DragonFyre
