I'd like to have something like Steam(game manager for Windows) but for managing software in Ubuntu. Ubuntu Tweak has some usability in this area, but are far from complete(only works as recomendation for software).

Jibbody-

The "Software Center" title will be localized, so in non-U.S. English locales it will read as "Software Centre".

Problem is 'AppCenter' is spelt incorrect for most of the world.

I hate the name AppCenter far more than I dislike AppStore. Yet more software that unjustly favours US spelling, confusing everyone else in the world.

Thanks for the kind words, Greg - and you're spot on when it comes to Debian package searching. Because this "Software Center" thing is so central to the Ubuntu experience, I'm thinking it deserves a more intense analysis in the future (complete with mockups). Let me know if you've got any other feelings on what the ideal "Software Center" should include.

I have often wanted to make an Ubuntu blog just to catalog my own list of interface complaints. It's always surprising how many "basic" features are either missing or buggy. Your website is my favorite Ubuntu blog on the Internet, thanks for writing it.

Your points about the Ubuntu store are right on... the guy who named it a store was probably intending the word to mean a place where you store things, but that's obviously not what a software store is. A software store is where you buy Microsoft products.

The most annoying "feature" of the current add/remove programs interface is the horrible delays and slow response time. The command line interface is SO much better than the GUI. The GUI takes forever to load. Yet, "apt-get install wesnoth" and I'm installing literally faster than I can blink.

The search interface has always been terrible, the only way to find software to install on any Debian-based system is to Google it. Try a search for "Chess", at least the apps that come up are games, but few are chess. Apt-cache search always returns different packages, so between the two searches and Google I can usually find some packages, but there is always a long process of sorting through 20-25 false positives before I find one that does what I'm after.
